Supersliding is an external velocity (EV) exploit used to increase speed by alternating the joystick between some horizontal direction and neutral every other frame while wedged inside of the ground. This joystick alternation, commonly referred to as " SG inputs", only has an effect on bikes. Additionally, only IDBs can superslide — with the exception of the Wario Bike, which is an ODB.
History
2012-2015: Initial IDB discovery and limited use
2016: Initial Wario Bike discovery
2017-2023: Increase in minor applications
(Calidae Desert, SNES Bowser's Castle 2)
2023-present: The supersliding revolution
Technical description
It is not yet fully understood why alternating the joystick builds EV. Below is a rough explanation.
After getting wedged inside the ground, you alternate the joystick inputs. This allows you to build EV, and if done long enough, move at a maximum of 120 XZ for an extended period of time.
